Essential Tips for Working Out with Hair Extensions

Essential Tips for Working Out with Hair Extensions

MYTH: You can’t work out with extensions.

FACT: Just because you live an active lifestyle doesn’t mean you can’t ever wear extensions! It is quite possible to finish a marathon with a full head of flawless hair. It’s all about taking the proper steps to give your extensions a little extra love before and after you hit the gym.

  • Remove the Clip-Ins.
  • Make your workouts a little easier on yourself by removing your Clip-In extensions. Though it’s not necessary, there really is no need to deal with extra sweat and tangling when Clip-Ins are easy to install and remove.

  • Rock the high pony.
  • Well hello there, Ariana! Before you hit the gym, take a second to pull your hair up and away from your neck and forehead. Excessive sweat can dry out your extensions, so it’s best to avoid the issue as much as possible. If you want to go the extra mile you can always wear a headband to ensure your hair is protected.

  • Avoid frizz.
  • For anyone who prefers laps in the pool, wear a swim cap to prevent extra frizz and tangles in your extensions. Learn more about swimming and participating in other outdoor activities with hair extensions here. (Link to Summer Hair Care - It’s a breeze Blog)

  • Don’t let your bonds melt.
  • Just like exposing your bonds to heat from styling tools can cause major damage, exposing them to the hot sun can be just as bad. If you’re walking, running, or hiking outdoors, protect your bonds with hat or wrap.

  • Live by your post-workout routine.
  • Washing your hair after workouts is an absolute must! Remember to always use sulfate-products to cleanse and hydrate your hair without stripping it of its natural oils. If you swim laps we recommend using a hair mask or deep conditioner at least once a week to help your extensions recover from chlorine damage.
